Crowns & Bridges

CROWNS

A traditional porcelain metal crown where all the enamel is removed from the tooth and a “cap” or “crown” is placed over the remaining tooth structure is seldom done at Family Dental Care of Bellevue. Recent research has discovered that it is the enamel coating that creates and gives the tooth it’s strength.  The more enamel your tooth has the stronger it is.  Dr. Austin  and Dr. Galloway only remove the weak tooth structure, leaving untouched the remaining healthy tooth to maximize your tooth’s natural strength. With CEREC technology Dr. Galloway and Dr. Austin than fabricates a beautiful porcelain restoration which is bonded into place restoring only the lost tooth structure. By using this technique our doctors are able to restore your tooth  back to 98% of it’s original strength. Research has shown that the strength of a tooth with a traditional crown is only around 80% of it’s original strength.

BRIDGES

If you are missing one tooth, or several teeth, as a patient you have several options available to replace and restore the missing tooth. An artificial “root” made out of titanium is one option. This treatment is called an implant, and has become very popular over the last twenty years. The more traditional method is called a bridge. To complete a bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared for crowns. An impression is taken, and a single unit bridge made up of three or more teeth is created to replace the missing tooth or teeth. Once made, the bridge is cemented permanently in place over the previously prepared teeth.
