When should my child have an orthodontic screening?
All children should receive an initial orthodontic screening at approximately the age of 7, or soon after the first molars erupt. This allows the dentist to carefully analyze the bite, or how the teeth come together in the mouth, and to look for signs that the emerging teeth might be crowded or irregularly spaced.
In some cases, orthodontic interventions might be recommended right away. In other cases, a conservative wait and see approach may be indicated. Your dentist will go over the screening results with you in depth, and develop a plan of action that meets your child’s individual needs.
