If you are like most patients, you are unaware that you have gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, as the signs and symptoms are not painful and are easily ignored. One of the most easily recognizable symptoms of gum disease is bleeding gums when you eat, brush, or floss your teeth.

Family Dental Care of Bellevue’s hygiene staff takes periodontal disease very seriously, and will design a program specifically tailored to your individual needs. Depending on the nature and severity of your gum disease, treatment protocols usually include cleaning with an ultrasonic cleaner and, in many cases, the use of a dental laser.

Our doctors begin every treatment plan with a thorough, caring, and professional evaluation. They will ask about your health history, check the range of motion in your jaw, listen for characteristic pops and clicks, and test your bite. You might also need x-rays or another type of imaging such as an MRI or CT scan.

Your child’s first dental visit is very important, and can often determine how your child will view dental care now and as an adult as well. Your child’s baby teeth are very important. Learning how to take care of them at an early age is very important to your child’s long term dental success. That is why we have developed the “happy visit” concept which begins ideally with your child’s very first dental visit.

The only objective of the “happy visit” is to introduce your child to dentistry at your child’s own individual pace. A typical “happy visit” appointment might include a ride in the dental chair, playing with the squirt gun and getting kisses with the slurpee straw. Sounds silly doesn’t it? But that is the point. Our only objective with these visits is to introduce your child to dental care in a non threatening, fun environment.

At Family Dental Care of Bellevue Dr. Bauer will begin evaluating the position of your child’s teeth each and every time your child is seen. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.
