Welcome to Family Dental Care of Bellevue — we're so glad you chose us for your dental home! If you're wondering what to expect at your very first appointment, we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and confident before you ever sit in the chair. Here's a look at what your new patient experience looks like with us.
A Thorough Start: Your Health History
Before we take a single X-ray or peek inside your mouth, we want to know you — the whole you. Your new patient visit begins with a comprehensive health history and assessment. We ask about your medical history, current medications, allergies, and any concerns or goals you have for your smile. Why does this matter? Because your oral health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Conditions like diabetes, heart disease, acid reflux, and many medications can all have a direct impact on your teeth and gums. By understanding your full health picture, we can personalize your care from day one.
Seeing the Big Picture: Dental X-Rays
Digital X-rays are a critical part of your new patient exam. They allow us to see what's happening beneath the surface — between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the bone — areas that simply can't be evaluated with the naked eye. We use low-radiation digital X-rays that are safe, fast, and give us a detailed view of your dental health so nothing gets missed.
The Future of Dental Impressions: 3D iTero Scan
Say goodbye to goopy impression trays! We use the iTero 3D digital scanner to capture a precise, comfortable, and incredibly detailed map of your teeth and bite. This state-of-the-art technology helps us identify issues with your bite, spacing, and alignment, and gives us a baseline record of your dental anatomy. It's quick, painless, and a great example of how we use modern tools to give you the best care possible.
The Heart of the Visit: Your Comprehensive Examination
Once we have your health history, X-rays, and digital scan, Dr. Bauer will sit down with you for a thorough, face-to-face comprehensive examination. This includes:
• A detailed evaluation of every tooth
• An assessment of your gums and bone health
• A check of your bite and jaw function
• An oral cancer screening
• A review of your X-rays and scan findings
This isn't a rushed, in-and-out exam. We take the time to truly understand your dental health, explain what we find, and answer all of your questions. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you stand and a personalized plan for where you're headed.
Cleaning on the Same Day — Or Scheduled at the Right Time for You
Many of our new patients are able to enjoy a professional cleaning on the same day as their exam — it's convenient, efficient, and gets your care off to a great start! However, we also know that life is busy, and so is our schedule during certain times of the year. For some patients, especially those with more complex needs or during our busier seasons, it may make more sense to schedule the cleaning as a separate, dedicated appointment. Either way, your care won't be rushed. We'll make sure you get the thorough, attentive cleaning you deserve.
Care That's Truly Personal
At Family Dental Care of Bellevue, we believe great dentistry is about more than just teeth. We take your whole health, your personal history, and your individual goals into account to create a dental care plan that's truly yours. Whether you're coming in for the first time or returning after years away from the dentist, you'll always be met with warmth, respect, and expert care.
